School Holiday Broadcasts

HTIEDREN attending primary schools will be having a break from their lessons during the next few weeks, and to help them enjoy the _ holidays-or, if you like, to make the holidays more bearable for harassed mothers-NZBS Broadcasts to Schools. will again be presenting a School Holiday Programme. This time it will be conducted by Lesley Farrelly, a former School Broadcasts officer who is now in charge of the Children’s Session from 4YA. Taken on link by all YA and YZ stations, it will be heard at 9.4 a.m. from Monday to Friday on both weeks of the holidays. It will start by giving young listeners a general picture of what they are to hear and will include stories and songs, quiz sessions," hobbies (making things from corks), rhymes for juniors, and travel talks. Among the new items that should be of special interest is Let's Sing Together, conducted by Freda Boyce, at present with the Australian National Opera; the travel talks (one by Ngita Woodhouse about a journey to Alice Springs and the other by Bruce Henderson about Spain); and a reading from The Thurber Carnival, of James Thurber’s story "The Day the Dam Broke"-which should have more than a few adult listeners.
