B Minor Mass on LP
\V HEN John Sebastian Bach wrote to the King and Elector of Saxony in 1733, asking for an appointment to the Court Capelle, he enclosed an "insignificant example of the | skill I possess in Musique." That wasn’t the end of his humility either, for he went on to ask the King to regard this piece of music with his notorious graciousness
and "not as its indifferent merits deserve." Indifferent it may have seemed to the old master, but listeners will probably decide it sounds pretty good to them when they hear it as the first two parts of the Mass in B Minor from 2YC at 8.30 p.m. on Tuesday, April 27. This new LP recording of the great Mass is by the Pro Musica Orchestra of Stuttgart and the Swabian Choral Singers conducted by Hans Grishkat, and the soloists are Margot Guilleaume (soprano), Werner Hohmann (tenor), Horst Guenter (bass) and Hetty Pluemacher (alto).
