O Stars of the British Variety Stage 10.30 Close down wn ny Tino Rossi, sometimes described as the idol of every French woman and most of the British, too, has a flair for singing love songs. Born in Corsica in 1907, he was one of a large family. His first appearance was in Laureis, near Aix-la-Provence, where he was introduced as having the most pleasant voice in the world. His répertoire consisted of only two songs, which were encored by his enthusiastic peasant audience. With a friend he roamed from village to village, a veritable troubadour, and while at Aix amused himself by recording on an _ old machine, which was heard by a recording official who offered him a contract. Then followed a visit to Mar- ~ seilles, where he created such a sensation with his songs that it was not long before he was captivating Paris itself. The charm and tenderness of his singing have certainly won him a large public. 4ZB will broadcast recordings by Tino Rossi at 9.30 tonight. * * * Sports results from Manawatu and surrounding districts will be broadcast || this evening from 2ZA following the National sports summary, which commences at 6.30.
