Personal Beliefs
OST of us have some sort of personal philosophy-a star or constellation by which we steer-though it might not be easy for us to state briefly and explicitly what it is. Sometimes it helps us to sort out our own ideas if we hear someone else discussing theirs. Not long ago the NZBS asked 30 New Zealanders from all parts of the country and many walks of life to state, for the help of others, the rules and beliefs by which they are guided. These short talks -all of them under five minutes longwere recorded and are now to be heard from various stations, starting with (& 7 2 which will broadcast them at 10.25 p.m. five days a week, starting on Monday, March 15. The series starts with a statement of Christian belief by R. A. Lowe. Others to be heard during the first week are L. Cleveland, who has some advice to offer about getting out of town (and staying out); a member of Alcoholics Anonymous, who describes how -he was helped to conquer alcoholism; R, I Thompson, who tells of a number of stars he discovered as he grew up; and the late Frank Reed, who sifts out the important beliefs from more than 70 years’ experience. The second week. will begin with a Stipendiary Magistrate, A. A. McLachlan, and among the many other walks of life represented in the series are law, farming, the amateur theatre, free lance writing and. daily journalism, education, the church, nursing and music. Stars to Steer By will start from 3YZ on March 29, and 2YZ on April 5, and later will be heard from other stations.
