On With the Nonsense
"PAT KIRKWOOD, who is playing the immortal Peter, Pan this year in London, is .one of the brightest stars of the British entertainment world, and in the BBC’s ‘In Town Tonight’ programme she spoke about the very early days of her career. This really began when she sang a popular song in the BBC's North Regional Children’s Hour. The manager of a big Northern variety theatre heard her, asked her to go for am audition and"then gave her a job. This interfered with her school work and rather upset the other girls, who were yery excited at the prospect of one of their number going on the stage. In time the headmistress sent for Pat and said, ‘Are you going on with this nonsense, or are you going to stay at school?’ Pat said quite firmly, and quite rightly as events have proved, ‘I’m going on with the nonsense.’"-BBC London Letter.
