wre PPP OOP rr rer CRICKET Progress scores in the Plunket Shield match at Palmerston North will be broadcast
Towards the end of the 1920's there appeared in the American world of variety a young man who performed a remarkable song and dance act. His name is Fred Astaire, and today he is probably one of the highest paid artists on American films, television, the stage and recordings. At 9.30 this morning, in "Star for Today,’ 3ZB will broadcast a selection of recordings by Fred Astaire. * * * Some of the simplest American songs are the most nostalgic, and many of them were written and composed hy Stephen Collins Foster. Foster was bern in Pittsburgh on July 4, 1°26 During his short life (he died at 38), Foster composed more than 130 ballads, This evening at 9.24 4ZB will present a selection of Stephen Foster songs. * * * The first broadcasts of two features may be heard today from Station 2ZA. At half-past-five "Captain Danger." a serial which should appeal specially to young listeners, and at 9 minutes past eight this evening "Now It Can Be Told," a series of true stories set in the turbulent days of the Second World War.
