The islands of the West Indies, apart from being popular tourist resorts, are famed for their calypso music and musicians. Before the war, a West Indian bandleader went to England to make a living leading his own West Indian Orchestra at the renowned Cafe de Paris in. London. His name was Ken Johnson, and his orchestra became one of London’s most popular dance bands in the early war years. At six o'clock this evening Station 3ZB will broadcast a selection of recordings by Ken Johnson and his West Indian Orchestra in the Tea Dance Session. * we se Year after year fans and critics alike demand more and still more recordings of Benny Goodman and his Orchestra. Benny Goodman, generally acknowledged to be the world’s greatest clarinettist, started a_ trio over a decade ago comprised of clarinet, ptano and drums. There are no written arrangements for this tfio, and the music they play is interpreted by artists whose musical ideas and executions are perfectly in harmony. This afternoon at 4.40 4ZB will present recordings by Benny Goodman, his orchestra and trie. z ea * 2ZA’s "Singing Stars," at 9.45 a.m., features recordings by the tenor Carlo Buti.
