POPS CONCERT
[DURING the Royal yisit to Christchurch, the National Orchestra of the: NZBS will give one of its lively Pops concerts in the Civic Theatreon Wednesday, January 20. The first balf of the programme wil] consist entirely of ballet music-Tchaikovski’s Swan Lake ballet suite, Gounod’s Faust ballet music, and La Boutique Fantasque, by Respighi (from works by Rossini), The second half will feature Maurice Till as soloist in Dohnanyi’s "Variations on a Nursery Theme," with Tchaikovski’s "Theme and Variations" ‘rom Suite No. 3 as the, final item. "fourier il] ig q 25-year-old Christchurch pianist who has spent the past five years on the staff of Otago University, assisting in the Faculty of Music and playing in the University’s trio. The trio is a permanent group which has given annual public subscription concerts. Outside his work with the University, Mr. Till has given public and broadcast performances in most parts of New Zealand, including an appearance as.soloist with the National Orchestra under Juan José Castro last year. He was also accompanist and solo artist during last year’s tour by the English bass Norman Walker. A_ graduate of Canterbury University College, Mr, Till holds the degree of Master of Arts, and the Diploma of Music. His performance with the orchestra at Christchurch will be repeated at Wellington on February 6, when he will play "Variations on a Nursery Theme" at the third of the Wellington Promenade concerts, The Pops concert on January 20 will be broadcast in its entirety by 3YC, beginning at 8.0 p.m,
