Stains on Woollens
Dear Aunt Daisy, A few weeks back you gave a hint for whitening woollies and removing Kario] stains. It was something from the.chemist. I wrote it down at the time to post on to my daughter, but since then I’ve been ill and just can’t think what I did with it. "1.S.,’ Mercer. The name you want is sodium perborate, and it is recommended by the Department of Home Science, Dunedin. You can soak the garment for up to 12 hour in a warm soapy solution, adding 4 level tablespoons of sodium perborate to a pint of water. The same amount -4 tablespoons to a pint of water, with no soap, makes a good sponging bleach for removal of odd smal] stains. Rinse well, Kariol sometimes comes out with a soaking in carbon tetrachloride, or | eucalyptus, and then washing as usual. There is also a vegetable oi] soap which — many mothers have found excellent. Get sodium perborate from the chemist.
