Self-indulgence
SELDOM use my fadio for emotional wallowing, but every time some member of the household pulls me up for intoning "Ramona" I am re minded of my delicious tour of. self-in-dulgence from 8 to 9 one recent Wednesdav evening. First the NZBS Variety
Magazine, pulsing with piano-accordion-ists and cosy with contraltos; then Old Songs for New, which did wonders for my nostalgia; finally the Tawharu Quintet, definitely torchy, their harmonies so smooth and clinging you don’t need any further application for. days, perhaps even till next week. The quintet’s "Ramona" at the beginning of the session struck me as almost too good to be true, but by final fade-out ("Ramona" gagain) I was convinced that the whole programme was true blue.
