en a ee eee i ae ne re ee ree Sid Phillips, now a bandleader in his own right, began his career in dance music as arranger for the Ambrose orchestra. Many of his arrangements and compositions were released in America and established the pre-war British Orchestra as the equal of any in the States. In recent years Sid Phillips has developed a highly successful group of his own and this will be on the aig from 1ZB today at 4.15 p.m. The precision in the singing of Les Compagnons de la Chanson has earned them acclaim in Ameriéa as well as England and the Continent. Not only in their singing but also in theif movements there is a finish that shows _training to a high degree. They will be heard from 2ZB at 4.45- today. 7 * te Raymond Scott, American composer, pianist and conductor, began playing the piano during his school days, but as he had planned to be an engineer, he did not take a serious interest in music until later, when he attended the Institute of Musical Art in New. York. He became a staff pianist for the CBS radio network in 1934 and while there he formed his famous Quintet. The Quintet went te Hollywood and appeared in films in 1936.1937. He returned to the CBS as conductor of a specially selected jazz orchestra around 1942, Raymond Scott and his Quintet will be heard from 4ZB this afternoon at 4.15. 1
