ALL BLACK TRIALS

ROADCASTING arrangements for the All Black trials starting August 25 are as follows:National Stations: The local. station only will broadcast a full commentary on each of the preliminary matchesAuckland (August 25), Wanganui (August 27), Dunedin (August 29), Nelson (September 1), Napier (September 3)--and on the final South Island trials at Christchurch on September 8. The final North Island trials at Palmerston North on September 9 will be broadcast by 2YC and 2ZA from the commencement of play at 1.30 p.m. onward, The North v. South match at Wellington on September 12 will be broadcast by 2YA with extended coverage. The final match, Possibles v. Probables, at Wellington on September 15, will be broadcast by 2YC with extended coverage. On each day of the trials the NZBS commentator, Winston McCarthy, will give a_ tenminute surmmary of play from all YA and YZ stations at 7.0 p.m. Commercial Stations; A 15-minute trial review will be broadcast by the four ZB stations and 2ZA at 6.0 p.m. on August 29 and September 12, and at 6.45 p.m. on August 25 and 27 and September 1, 3, 8, 9 and 15, Each programme will comprise a summary of

play by Winston McCarthy, plus a short review of players’ form by a prominent Rugby personality. For the opening trial at Auckland this will be Fred Allen. At later matches the speakers will be Knox Welsh, Charlie Saxton, Hugh’ Brown, Norman McKenzie, Beau Cottrell, J.-L. Griffiths and Mark Nicholls. For those with an. interest in the tactical and theoretical side of Rugby, the ZB stations will be broadcasting, on September 6, a discussion of Danie Craven On Rugby. In place of the normal ZB Book Review at 9.35 p.m., a panel comprising M. F. Nicholls, J. H. Parker and Winston McCarthy will assess the Springbok’s book.
