Wesley Anniversary Service

UILT by John Wesley in the. early days of his mission in Bristol, where he began his "‘field-preaching," the New Room is the oldest Methodist preaching place in the world, Now known as John Wesley’s Chapel, the New Room wes the headquarters of his work in the West of England until his death. A service which was recorded by the BBC in this chapel last May, to mark the 200th anniversary of Wesley Day, is to be heard from National Stations of the NZBS during the next few months, starting from 3¥A at 3.40 p.m. on Sunday, August 23. The. service is conducted by the Rev. Eric W. Baker, secretary of the British Methodist Conference, who also gives the address. Above the galleried chapel at the New Room are the rooms where the Bristol preachers lived and John Wesley himself lodged on his regular visits to the city. Charles Wesley lived for 22 years in a house near by and was, in effect, the resident pastor at the New Room; and many of Wesley’s annual conferences with his preachers were held in this building.
