Satisfying Music
MUSICAL programmes from 4YC i y . have some unusually satisfying listening lately with the appearance of some rafely-heard music. Within the one fortnight we have been given a series of four of the Bach Suites for ’Cello (unaccompanied), admirably performed by Pau Casals, giving one_ cause to wonder why we have not heard more of these in the past. An- | other night, the programme included the extremely rare sonatas by Mozart. for organ and gstrings, the "Church" | sonatas. A complete performance of | The Winter Journey, also rare, was. given by Hans Hotter, and another night, Bruckner’s Fourth Symphony, the "Romantic." A series of programmes sur- | veying the music of Stravinsky was
opened .by a performance of Fetes | du Soldat, and intelligently chosen for repetition within the week, while the. complete series of Beethoven Pianoforte sonatas is appearing one by one each Friday night. These additions to our normal programmes have proved | very welcome.
