Homes and People
"WE want a home!" That is the cry of tens of thousands of people in New Zealand, but it doesn’t make it any easier for any one married couple or family to know that many others are in the same plight. See the problem as one family sees it-as it affects individual men, women and children-and you realise how much unhappiness it causes. For many who had planned to build, costs soaring while they saved has put a home as far away as ever, and ~with a rising population the end to the shortage of houses seems far away, This is the atmosphere in which the Government is to meet interested parties in what is probably the most important conference on housing yet held in New Zealand. To help listeners to get a clearer picture of the problem the NZBS will broadcast on link from YA and YZ stations during July a documentary programme and three discussions. These will be heard at 9.15 p.m. on Mondays. The first, No Home of Our Own-a New Zealand Problem, to be broadcast on July 6, will give in documentary form a picture of the magnitude and urgency of the problem. On the following three Mondays discussions on the topic "We Want: a Home" will tackle some of the practical questions that people who intend to build a house have to face.
