Women in the Back Seat
Had Cleopatra’s nose been shorter, the whole history of the world would have been different.-Blaise Pascal. HE French philosopher quoted above may perhaps have over-emphasised the importance of a minor part of the anatomy, but he did point unerringly to the close connection between the casual and the casual in history. Would Nelsgn have been thé great warrior he was without his Lady Hamilton? Would Chopin have been a better or a worse composer if George Sand had been a pretty wallflower who eschewed cigars? A programme built on speculations such as these begins shortly from the ZB stations and 2ZA. Entitled The Woman in His Life, it portrays the influence of certain women in the lives of great men. There are vignettes of the lives of women who influenced such important figures as Napoleon, Beethoven, Shelley, Sheridan, Michelangelo, Disraeli and Hitler. Yes, even the pure Aryan who neither smoked nor. drank had a woman in his life-though her determination of history was probably
by no means so important as that of the fraulein who met and _ married Schiklgruber pére, _ The Woman in His Life will play from the ZB stations on Mondays at 2.0 p.m., beginning from 1ZB on May 18, from 2ZB on June 8, from 3ZB on June 22, and from 4ZB on July 6. Station 2ZA will broadcast the feature at 7.15 p.m. on Mondays, beginning June 1.
