London Tour for Young Listeners
SERIES of BBC children’s programmes designed to introduce younger listeners to some of London’s places of historic and contemporary importance will be starting shortly from YZ and YA stations. Entitled Jennifer in London, the series includes programmes dealing with the Royal Palaces, the Tower of London, Trafalgar Square, the Pool of London, Chelsea, and the Royal Borough of Kensington. Jennifer, who is an American: girl visiting London, is unlike most people, for she can bring to life events and people of the past. Thus, in the first programme, she meets Henry VIII, Anne Boleyn, James I, George IV, and William IV. And she sees the inside of Buckingham Palace through the eyes of a lady-in-waiting. The young actress Margaret Barton ‘plays Jennifer, and the series, which was written by Howard Jones, was produced by May Jenkins, who recently retired from the post of Head of Children’s Hour for the BBC. Jennifer in London starts from 2YZ on Wednesday, May 13, from 1YZ. on Thursday, May 14, from 3YZ on Friday, May 15, and from 4YZ on Saturday, May 16. It will be broadcast at 5.0 p.m. The YA stations will broadcast the series, beginning in June.
