On the Target
JOB FOR LIFE has just concluded a most triumphant course from 2YA’s Women’s Session. The series has provided an excellent example of how documentary intention and technique can yield sizable incidental harvests in entertainment. "The Printing Trade," the last one I heard, struck me as having just the right amount of preparation-the people interviewed sounded neither taken aback nor over-primed, A little more stream-lining might have made a slicker programme; there were still questions and answers of this type: "Is a knowledge of mdchinery desirable?" "Yes, especially in the machinery room." But such conversational gambiting, though it may have sounded obvious to the casual listener, was possibly not superfluous to the ears of the programme’s target, the mother giving thoughtful consideration to the problem of her child’s future.
