Back the mats with carpet, either an old piece, or with an equal-sized piece of the new one which then has the additional merit of being made reversible. The idea is that only "pile" will really grip and stick to "pile." Just a hem turned over is not enough; it needs either the whole back or a strip at least 8 inches wide. ;
