Young Farmers' Leadership Contest

OR the first time since the contest began the final of the Australian and New Zealand Young Farmers’ Radio Leadership Contest will be held in New Zealand this year. Originally restricted to members of Young Farmers’ Clubs in Australia, the contest was launched by the Australian Broadcasting Commission about six yedrs ago, but for the last three years the winner of a New Zealand contest has gone to Australia to compete. This year an Australian will compete in New Zealand against the four Dominion finalists. The prize for the winner will be a trip around New Zealand, but if the winner is a New Zealander he has the option of taking a money prize towards a trip overseas. When the final is broadcast from YA and YZ stations at 6.40 p.m. on Tuesday, April 22, the entrants will face H. M. Casselberg, supervising valuer of the State Advances Corporation, as question-master, and they will be judged for radio voice and personalality, farming knowledge, and Young Farmers’ Club knowledge and personality by Bernard Beeby, NZBS. Supervisor of Productions, J. Bruce Brown, assistant Fields Director, Lands and Surveys Department, and D. S. Hendtie, Agricultural Liaison Officer at the United Kingdom High Commissioner’s Office.
