Sacred Arias by Bach
HE first two of four Bach recitals will be heard next week from 2YC at 7.0 p.m. on Wednesday, April 2, and at 9.11 p.m. on Saturday, April 5. The recitals were recorded for the NZBS by the baritone Gerald Christeller, who is heard in a number of Bach’s Sacred Arias with Francis Rosner (violin), Ken Smith (trumpet), Frederick Page (piano) and Edward Booth (oboe). These programmes of sacred arias, for which Bach received -wide recognition during his lifetime, are followed on each occasion by recorded instrumental works by the same composer. In the first programme the Italian Concerto in F Major will be heard, with Artur Schnabel at the piano, and Sonata No. 6 in E Major with Yehudi Menuhin, violin, and Hendrick Endt, piano. The second Bach recital is followed by the Sonata in G Major, with Louis Jensen (’cello) and Galina Werschenskaya (piano); the Sonata Notturna in E,Flat, with Merkel and. Schwartz (violins) and Navarra (cello); and the Trio in G Major which will feature Marcel Moyse (flute), Blanche Honegger-Moyse (violin), and Louis Moyse (piano). The third and fourth recitals in this series will be broadcast from 2YC at 7.45 p.m. on Tuesday, April 8, and at 7.0 p.m. on Friday, April 11.
