One Man's Pleasure
N a talk for the BBC not long ago on oné of his favourite hobbies, Tyrone Guthrie, author and theatrical producer, defined himself as a "poker abouter." He determinedly defends the city dweller, a being who is at home among steel, glass and concrete, and says that wandering about the city streets watching Man, and listening to his wild cries, sets him wondering. Guthrie says there is apparently one essential qualification néeded before you take up this pastime; you must have a highly-developed imagination to sample the delights of speculating on, Say, why did the dustman reel when he lifted the ashcan lid, and why did his assistant hurriedly fling the lid on again? This talk, called The Pleasures of Poking About, will be broadcast by 2YC at 7.45 p.m. on Monday, December 31. ---
