Damp Mattress
Dear Aunt Daisy, I read "Elizabeth’s" reply to a Link about a damp mattress. I had the same trouble some years ago and was told to wash the ticking, as some materials are dressed with salt, and some with lime, and therefore are always damp. Since washing the ticking I have had no further bother} end the mattress is often left. for weeks unused. This may help others with the same trouble. : "E.," Half Moon Bay, Stewart Island. Most decidedly the kapok is damp! As a victim I want to warn people of the danger. Whatever part of the body is delicate, that part will suffer most, The cause is salt spray from the sea. When kapok is damaged by salt water or spray in bad weather there is no solution. Like the salt in the kitchen it is for ever a weather-teller in an awkward place and must immediately be replaced.
