Where possible interviews and messages from members of the team are also going on the air. With Australians interested in the French League team which recently toured succesfully across the Tasman, Radio New Zealand is covering this team’s New Zealand tour. Most of Winston McCarthy’s on-the-spot commentaries and all his evening summaries are being broadcast on the Australian beam. The tour of the Victorian Association football team is being covered in much the same way. Ulric: Williams, in charge of Radio New Zealand, told The Listener that sports broadcasts were a quite important part of the station’s work. The most important weekend sporting events are dealt with on Friday nights, and there is comment on New Zealand sport on Monday and Wednesday nights.
