Salute to Bing

S a boy, Harry Lillis Crosby Jr. was was always reading the adventures of a comic-strip hero, the Bingville Bugle. That is where he got the nickname. Congenitally easy-going, this Bing Crosby was to spend his life falling uphill. He made a hit in The Big Broadcast of 1932, the first picture in which he starred, and since then hasn’t been able to get out of the spotlight. When Crosby’s 20 years as a star was celebrated in America recently the Columbia Broadcasting System and Paramount Pictures co-operated in produc‘ing a show, Salute to Bring Crosby, in which the voices of many people with whom Bing has been associated are heard: Edgar Bergen and Charlie MceCarthy, Ella Fitzgerald, Judy Garland, Mary Martin, Amos and Andy, Bob Hope, Dorothy Kirsten, Jack Teagarden, and Louis Armstrong, as well as Bing Crosby himself and a very special surprise guest. Salute to Bing Crosby will be heard from all ZB stations at 9.0 p.m. this Sunday (August 5) and from 2ZA at the same time on Sunday, August 12.
