Introducing the Baron
HEN an English publishing house offered a prize of £1500 some years ago for the creation of a new mystery fiction character, it was ae by Anthony Morton with Meet the Baron. It is the story-as readers of | mystery novels will not need to be told -of John Mannering, a wealthy young man-about-town, who became a modern Robin Hood, pitting his skill against criminal and policeman alike. Meet the Baron had a very big sale, arid a long series of books with the same _ central character has followed ‘it. A dramatisation of one of these, Alias the Baron, will be heard soon from Commercial stations. The part of The Baron is taken by Michael Pate, who wifl be remembered for his performance in the Australian film Sons of Matthew. Other members of the cast include Lyndall Barbour, John Tate, Neva Carr Glynn, Kevin Brennan and Dinah Shearing. The story was adapted by Juan Cortez and produced by Reg Johnston. Alias the Baron will start from 2ZA at 7.45 p.m, on Wednesday, August 1, and will be heard from that statiorf at the same time every Monday and Wednesday. It will be broadcast from the four ZB stations at 7.30 p.m. on Mondays and Wednesdays, starting at 2ZB on August 15, 1ZB on August 29, 3ZB on Septem-| ber 19 and 4ZB on October ae : % * OR some years Rod Telbot’s Tuesday night programme from 12ZB, Turning Back the Pages, has given listeners melodies from the past: This session has now been replaced by another of a similar kind in which listeners will have a part. Rod Talbot has asked them to write in requesting their favourite old-time tune, and saying why they like it, and guests at the microphone will also be encouraged. The new session, Memories in Melody, is broadcast from 1ZB every Tuesday at ~10.0 p.m.
