FRENCHMEN AND FIJIANS
AY INSTON McCARTHY will give on-the-spot commentaries on all matches played by the French League Football team on its New Zealand tour, which starts with a game against the West Coast at Greymouth on Wednesday, July 25. This match will be broadcast by 3YZ. Broadcasting arrangements for other matches are: July 28, v. Canterbury, at Christchurch, 3YA; July 30, v.. Welliigton, at Wellington, 2YA; August 4, v.. New. Zealand, at Auckland, 1YA and rebroadcast by 2YA, 3YA and 3YZ; August 6, v. Auckland, at Auckland, 1YA; August 9, v. South Auckland, at either Huntly of Hamilton, 1XH; August 11, v. Taranaki, at New Plymouth, 2XP. On-the day of each match there will also be a short teview from the YA and YZ stations, at 6.40 p.m. for week-day matches and 7.0 p.m. on Saturday, and results will be announced in the 9.0 p.m, news, Commercial: stations will include -a short commentary on the games against Canterbury and New Zealand in their 6.30 p.m. Saturday sports session.’ The Fijian Rugby team will also begin its New Zealand tour on Wednesday, July 25, with a match at Te Aroha against Thames Valley. This match and those against Marlborough (at Blenheim) and Bush Districts (at Pahiatua) will not be covered on the spot, but there will be a short commentary from YA and YZ stations in the evening as for the French League team’s matches. all other matches there © will be an on-the-spot ‘commentary from local stations (in the main centres from YA. stations), _fol-
lowed by an evening review on the YA-YZ link. i After the opening game, the Fijians will play matches on July 28, v. Bay of Plenty, at Rotorua; August » eA Poverty Bay, at Gisborne; "August 4, v. Hawke’s Bay, at Napier; August 8, v. Marlborough, at Blenheim; August 11, v. Buller, at Westport; August 15, v. South Canterbury, at Timaru; August 18, v. Otago, at Dunedin; August 22, v. Southland, at Invercargill; August 25, v. Canterbury, at Christchurch; August 29, v. Maoris, at Wellington; September 1, v. Wanganui, at Wanganui; September 4, v. Bush Districts, at Pahiatua; ‘September 8, v: Waikato, at Hamilton; and September 12, v. Auckland, at Auckland. Commercial stations will give results of matches, and tHere be a review of the more important day games in the 6.30 p.m. sports’session. P _ Radio New Zealand will broadcast on-the-spot commentaries on the main matches, and a 10-minute review of all matches will be included in their evening programmes. They will also broadcast news of the team and messages from players. —
