The tragic thing is that 90% of drownings could have been prevented by a little more thought a little more care: Swimming is grand fun and healthy sport So swim all You want to but know where the main dangers lie and take care to avoid them AT The BEACH Not one life has been lost through drowning during the past 3 Years when Surf Club patrols have been on duty on patrolled beaches keep wlthin the marked areas obey the signs It'$ safer. On unpatrolled beaches take more care: Beach balls and rubber boats can be dangerous in the water they can carry You unknowingly into difficulty_misuse can lead to tragedy It'$ as easy to swim in 5 feet of water as 50 ! AT THE RIVER Rivers and lakes are responsible for nearly half of all drown- Ings. Danger points are diving Into unknown pools where there are snags or submerged rocks swimming across un- known sections of the river_-there may be submerged trees or dangerous currents Don't rush in carelessly-_~the gravel may have scoured into a dangerous hole: IN BOATS If You mess about In boats that' $ fine, but DO wear a life jacket they cost little and may save your life.
