ANOTHER BING CROSBY SHOW
Crooning and Comedy from ZB's GROUCHO MARX and Jimmy Durante make their appearance in a new series of The Bing Crosby Show, due to start at the four ZB stations next Monday, October 31. These two irrepressibles are not let loose together, but: each takes a turn as guest artist with Crosby. Another guest star is Adolph Menjou who partners Crosby in some scenes of mock horror. Clowning and hit tunes are said to be ingeniously amalgamated in most of these half-hour presentations. As a crooner of popular songs Crosby is usually associated with the John Scott Trotter Orchestra. Trotter has a prominent place in this series but Bob Crosby and Red Nichols and their orchestras are also featured. Each programme is complete in itself, and some of the comedy situations are ingenious. There is, for instance, Dr. Groucho Marx’s clinic, which is not only out of this world, but at least half of the next. "Memory Medley," a programme, in which the guest artist is Oscar Levant, is an altogether. different session. In it Levant and Crosby, together with Peggy Lee, talk about old times and old tunes, like "Wildflower," "Silver Lining" and "Lady, Play Your Mandoline," to mention three of a dozen or so sung ‘as solos or as duets by Crosby, Peggy Lee and Buddy Cole, with Oscar Levant at the piano for some of the items, and with Joe Venuti’s Orchestra accompanying the others. The Bing Crosby Show will be heard from the four ZB stations at 9.0 p.m. each Monday.
