New Women's Hour Sessions from 2YA
ON’T put your daughter on the stage, said Noel Coward-but perhaps she would like to be a_ policewoman, a schoolteacher, a physical training. officer, a dental nurse, a dietitian, or a buyer in a draper’s shop. There are many careers for girls besides marriage, and with the end of the school year approaching, Station 2YA_ will ‘shortly broadcast in its Women’s Session a number of talks on the subject of A Career for Your Daughter. The talks will be given by experts in each of the vocations mentioned above, and will be broadcast on Thursdays. The first will be heard at 11.0 am. on Thursday, November 10. Another new series of programmesthis time of particular interest to old pecple-starts in the Women’s Session on the same day. This series is called Problems of Old Age. In it Zenocrate Mountjoy, who has already broadcast in women’s sessions from various stations, will interview people actively concerned with the problem of how old people can best fill in their leisure hours.
Among those to be interviewed are Mr. and Mrs. H. C. D. Somerset, pioneers of the community centre movement in New Zealand, and the Rey. Harry Squires, ‘Wellington City Missioner, The final talk in this series will be given by Dr. Elizabeth Bryson. With summer and the dog days of January almost upon us, many families in the city will be wondering where to spend their holidays this year, and to assist them in their choice of a suitable spot 2YA’s Women’s Session is now including on. Tuesdays a series of talks ‘under the title Holiday Plans. In these a member of the Tourist Bureau outlines the holiday attractions of each sea‘side and country district of New Zealand in turn, describing what hotels, motor camps, beach cottages, and other facilities are available. Listeners to the Women’s Session are shortly to lose the services of the session’s compére, Miriam Pritchett. The general pattern and style of the session, which is organised by the staff of 2YA, will however remain unchanged.
