TWO-PIANO RECITALS
T. PAUL'S SCHOOL, London, was the secret headquarters from ,which, during the early months of 1944, Eisenhower and Montgomery issued the plans which resulted in the invasion of Europe on D-day. The school, one of England’s oldest public. schools, was established about 1509 by John Colet, dean of St. Paul’s, under the shadow’ of the cathedral church, It was moved to its present site in Hammersmith road in 1883. Among its most famous pupils were Milton, Pepys, the great Duke of Marlborough, and Lord Montgomery himself. The director of music at St. Paul’s, Henry E. Wilson, is at present visiting New Zealand. as one of the 1949 examiners for the Royal Schools of Music. Mr. Wilson, who is a professor of music at the
Royal College, is accompanied by his wife, who is also a professor of music there, and his daughter, who is a student ‘there. All three are pianists, and the two parents will be heard in a series of solo and two-piano recitals during the next few weeks from 2YA, 2YZ, and 3YA. They have performed a number of two-piano works in Britain: and Australia, and have given’ recitals at Wigmore Hall, London, and while they were
in Australia recently they did a series of broadcasts for the ABC. They include in their repertoife several Bach arrange‘ments, a two-piano arrangement (by t ‘the composer) of 8ne of Brahms’s quintets, Saint-Saens’s Variations on a Theme of Beethoven, Op. 35, and Mozart’s Sonata in D, K.448. The dates of their broadcasts will be: October 11 and 21, from 2YA; October 17 and 19, from 2YZ. The dates of the 3YA broadcasts will be announced later.
