DON'T BE MISLED BY HYSTERIA VOTE WITH YOUR HEAD The future of our country lies in the preservation of world peace: No country threatens New Zealand. A vote according to the facts is a vote AGAINST conscription. CONSCHIPTION MEANS WAR THIS IS THE SITUATION Is war imminent? Every leading statesman; including Prime Minister Fraser,; says No; Only super-nations can declare war to-day; the United States possesses the secret of the atomic bomb and the Americans are 0 peace-loving people. Statesmen say that Russia does not want war Australia, Canada, South Africa have rejected conscription: New Zealand Must do the same: Eminent military experts have branded conscription aS the greatest contributory factor to war because it spreads war hysteria WHY A COMPULSORY SYSTEM ? Defence needs in the age of the atomic bomb require small; highly trained units equipped with scientific technique: Conscription will not provide this: Conscription does not ensure equality of sacrifice. Taxation does not take men from their homes and families Or create widows and orphans Conscription does. It violates the rights and liberties of the people and deprives growing boys of their healthy home environment. As Captain Liddell Hart declares: "The principle of conscription is the means by which modern dictators and military gangs shackle the peoplel" It places in the hands of governments autocratic powers to regiment the people in peace time In England, in Australia, troops are being used in industrial disputes Will that happen here? THIS SCHEME IS A VOTE AGAINST PEACE Conscription will not give New Zealand either a well trained Or a well equipped army For centuries the nations of Europe have employed conscription _ WITHOUT PREVENTING ONE WAR: CONSCRIPTION 'DOES Not MEAN REAL DEFENCE PREPAREDNESS: Mr. Fraser has already said that taxation will be increased: Is he going to double income tax; restore the wartime wage tax; Or cut pensions and other services?
