National Orchestra for Scotland
HE formation of a permanent Scot- | tish National Orchestra under national management will from now *orr be the chief aim of both the Glasgow Choral. and Orchestral Union and the Edinbutgh Concert Society, according to a statement issued jointly by A, G. Murray, of the Glasgow Union, and John Cameron, of the Edinburgh Society. A scheme will immediately be worked out, and, as soon as approval has been given by the Lord Pfovosts of Glasgow and Edinburgh, a public appeal for funds will be launched, It is hoped to receive financial backing from the Arts Council of Great Britain and from public bodies, local authorities and musical interests throughout Scotland. This financial organisation resembles to some extent that behind the Sydney Symphony, which is financed jointly by the Australian Broadcasting Commission, the New South Wales State Government, and the Sydney City Council.
