From Henry James
ASTE, adapted by Thea Holme from a story by Henry James, was excellent for radio, a neatly constructed dramatisation requiring only the three characters. Not being familiar with the original, I cannot say whether this was a complete or authoritative adaptation, but as a radio play it certainly scored. It had plenty of pace, in spite of a partly narrative technique, which sometimes slows down a radio play; it maintained a crescendo of what, for want of a better term, might be called psychological interest; and it managed to be both brief and yet full of atmosphere, the latter produced purely by means of the voices, with the minimum of adventitious radio "background." But then, of course, it isn’t every radio play which is lucky enough to be adapted from a writer as good as Henry James,
