SHORTWAVE HIGHLIGHTS
Canadian Transmission to the Pacific HE Canadian Broadcasting Corporation broadcasts United Nations programmes on Tuesdays to Saturdays, and a weekly programme covering Canadian News and the Canadian way of life, which is heard every Sunday night. At present, the afternoon transmifyion is heard at excellent strength, while that on Sunday is heard at very good strength except for slight interference. The UN transmission begins at 4.5 pm. on CKCS (15.32 me/s., 19.58 metres) and CHOL (11.72, 25.60). This progremme opens with the UN News, followed at 4.15 p.m. by the feature session "UN Today"’-an actuality
broadcast. At 4.30 p.m. a special postscript is heard frequently introducing a visitor to UN from Australia or New Zealand. The weekly transmission on Sunday everiings begins at 8.40 p.m. on CHOL (11.72 mc/s., 25.60 metres) and CHLS (9.61, 31.22). Canadian and Overseas News opens the programme at 8.45 p.m., followed at 9.0 p.m. by "Canadian Chronicle." "Prairie Schooner" is heard at 9.15 p.m, and at 9.30 p.m. "Cross Section"a programme introducing a typical Canadian. "Stories of Yesterday and Today" is broadcast at 9.45 p.m., followed at 10.0 p.m. by "Listeners’ Corner." "Eyewitness Account"-a political commentary, concludes the evening’s programme.
