CONSULTATIVE COMMITTEE ON THE TRAINING OF TEACHERS A Consultative Committee on the Traln Ing 0f Teachers has been set up by the Hon. the Minister of Education with the following terms of reference:_ "To inquire into the provision made for the recruitment, education, and training of teachers in New Zealand; the selection of candidates for training and the conditions of admission; the courses of training; the organization and control of the training of teachers; the types of certificate that may be awarded and the conditions of award, and the prescriptions fOr the existing De partmental examinations for teachers' cer- tificates; to consider the implications of the proposal to ertend by one jear the course of training fOr primary school teachers; and to make recommendations. The Committee invites Tritten evidence from all interested persons and organiza tons. Those submitting such evidence are asked: (1) to supply , if possible; eight coples 0f their statements; (2) to indicate Thether Or not they Fish to appear before the Committee In due course t0 present oral evidence: Notice of intention t0 sub- mit evidence should be given not later than 3 Ist March; 1949.
