A Football Field is not big enough in which to stop from 60 mph: An efficiently braked car driven by a competent driver over favourable road conditions and travelling at 60 mp h. re- quires 112 yds. in which to pull up safely more than the length of a football field. Speed is Dangerous! At 40 mp.h. it takes four times the distance to stop that it does at 20 mp h;; at 60 m,p.h. it takes nine times; for stopping distance increases very rapidly as the speed increases, in proportion to the square of the speed.
