Pressing Trousers

Dear Aunt Daisy, In a recent Listener I read where "Housewife, of Palmerston North," was unable to obtain a good crease in’ her hubby’s trousers. Here is a dressmaker’s way of getting good knife edges: Have a heavy block of wood say about 4 x 4 and 12 inches long. Pad this with a thick

woollen material (old blanket or some- | thing similar) having no colour. Press in the usual manner with a damp rag; but, remove the iron and rag before it is dry and clamp the block down hard and. leave until no steam is escaping. Only press the length of the block each time. Steam must be held in the garment without added heat. This is good also for sleeves, pleats and hems which you press on the outside, of course, making it lie nice and flat.
