Lie ey HARRIS, Otago University librarian, recently spoke from 4ZB about ‘some of the rare old books and medieval manuscripts in the University Library, and at 9.45 p.m. on Sunday, April 11, he will give another broad-, cast describing some of the books, letters and documents relating to Otago’s early history which are to be found in the Hocken Library at Dunedin. The passenger lists of the first two ships to come to the province in 1848, early newspapers and periodicals, land deeds from Maori chiefs (signed with the Moko and wax impressions of their fingerprints), and a fine collection of letters written by several of the first missionaries, are among the documents discussed. * * Music AT EIGHT, from 1ZB’s Radio Theatre on Sunday, April 11, will feature the soprano June Trelawney, who has sung solos with the Carl Rosa Opera Company in England and made recordings with Anton and his Orchestra, * * * N a new ‘series of half-hour plays, Among the Immortals, George Edwards, the Australian radio producer, uses dramatized versions’ of the lives of people famous in history and literature. Listeners to the ZB stations will hear this year the life-stories of such people as the Duke of Marlborough, Warren Hastings, General Wolfe, Robert Burns, Edgar Allan Poe, Samuel Butler, Ben
Jonson and William Pitt. There will be 16 stories in all, starting at 4ZB on Sunday, April 18, at 8.0 p.m., 2ZB on Sunday, April 25, at 8.0 p.m., 2ZA on Sunday, May 2, at 8.0 pm., 3ZB on|: Sunday, August 8, ‘at 7,30 pm., and 1ZB on Sunday, August 22, at 7.0 p.m.
