New Radio Sleuth
A NEW serial, The Adventures of Perry Mason, replacing A Case for Cleveland, is now being broadcast by 2ZA on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays at 7.45 p.m. and from 2ZB at 7.30 p.m. Playing on the same nights of the week it will start at 1ZB on Wednesday, April 14, 3ZB on Wednesday, April 28, and 4ZB on Wednesday, May 12, in each case at 7.30 o’clock. This is the first series of New Zealand broadcasts of
crime stories by the American novelist Erle Stanley Gardner. There are 31 fifteen-minute episodes in the first tale, sub-titled "The Case of the Jealous Sister," which finds Mason attacking a problem concerning an innocent-looking string of beads with a sinister history. For listeners who like to know the names of the players, here is the cast: Perry Mason (played by John Bhore), Della Street (Marcia Hart), Paul Drake (Clifford Cowley), Arthur Baldwin (Reg. Goldsworthy), Velma Ashely (Patricia Kennedy). Rose Ashely (Beryl Walker), Frank Carlisle (David Reid), Lieut: Duryea (Keith Howard), Lieut. ‘Tragg (Keith Hudson), and Sylvia Baldwin (Mary Reid).
