INTERRUPTED SYMPHONY
Sir;-On Tuesday afternoon, January 13, I was listening during the classical hour over 2YA to a very enjoyable programme of music by Beethoven. Near the end of his Fifth Symphony, when there. was still about six minutes to go, the music. was’suddenly cut short on a chord, which sounded entirely out of place, and the announcer, without any explanation nor apology for the mistake, introduced the next item. (The technicians could not have been pressed for time as Beethoven’s Rondo in C Major was played as an extra item at the end). What may have happened is that the technician in charge may have inadvertently overlooked that there was another record to play. If so, surely the least that could have been done would have been to express recret when the mistake was
discovered.
