Quite a Problem

Dear Aunt Daisy, I have had quite an accident with my pink locknit pyjamas, and I was wondering if you could help me. I rinsed out my clothes, including the above pyjamas, and two pairs of stockings, one rayon, and one new pair of lisle. I left them to soak while I had dinner. When I went to hang the things out, the pyjamas (which had been lying next to the stockings) were all marked with the dye. from the s‘ockings. These pyjames were new, too, and a good locknit. Could you tell me what to do to get the marks out. I have only tried washing so far, with no success whatever.

Jeannie

Oamaru.

What a sad thing to happen to new pyjamas! Ore good method of removing dye marks is to soak the pyjamas in water, with the marked parts on top, just above the surface of the water,

Cover these with bicarbonate of soda. As it dissolves with the dampness of the material, put on more soda, and keep on persevering. It may take a couple of days. Another way is to soak the marks in equal parts of benzine and methylated spirits; or sometimes dye marks are removed by sponging with a ten per cent solution of hydrochloric acid from the chemist. Rinse it well out straight away, with a few drops of ammonia in the water. And if. all these methods should fail, you could use a Dye Remover-although that would probably take the colour out of ail the pyjamas, as well, Still you could rfedye them. I do hope you get the marks out quickly,
