FAMOUS SERIAL CHARACTERS RETURN
New Episodes of "One Man's Family"
HOUGH it is five or six years since the serial One Man’s Family was on the air from the ZB stations, many listeners will still recall the daily doings of the Barbour family, for they became for a time the best known of all serial personalities, The feature stopped because no more scripts were available from America, but this difficulty has now been overcome, and a Melbourne studio with the prominent radio producer Mayne Lynton in charge has assembled a cast that brings to life once more this lovable family and its friends and relations. Beginning at Station 1ZB on Monday, June 26, at 10 p.m., the first episode of the new One Man’s Family will carry on the story of the Barbour family from the’ point where the old series ended. It should be emphasised that this new production is not a rebroadcast of the former story: it is a continuation, and in
order to freshen the memories of former listeners and to introduce the characters of the family to new listeners, here is a quotation from the author’s preface to his new narrative: "This story concerns the Barbour Family -a family which cotild very well be your neighbours. For several years this typical group in our modern social life has revealed its personal and intimate relationships. A son (Jack) has grown from an adolescent of 14 to a second-year University student; a daughter (Claudia) has changed from a 19-year-old college girl to a runaway bride, to a young widow, and then to a happilymarried young matron; another daughter (Hazel) has grown from an unhappy spinster into a grateful wife and loving mother. And similar changes have happened to each of the other members of the Barbour clan." The serial will begin at 4ZB next month. In the photograph above, Mrs. Barbour (Ruby May) is seated on the left, Beth Holly (Mary McGregor) is beside her, and Jack Barbour (Terry Hill) is on the right. Standing is Paul (David Reid).
