"The Living Theatre"
STARTING on Sunday, April 30, from 1ZB is a new one-hour feature programme, The Living Theatre, which is described as the nearest thing to straight-out theatrical entertainment that New Zealand listeners have heard. Each show is complete in itself, The Living Theatre is acted and produced in Australia by Australians, and appearing in the series are many names wellknown to New Zealanders from the days when J. C. Williamson companies toured the Dominion, including Frank Harvey, Sidney Wheeler, Mayne Linton and Beryl Walker. The plays are all topical, many being based on pre-sent-day history. for instance, the defiante of the Germans by a Norwegian bishop; the’ torpedoing of the child evacuee ship City of Benares; the escape of some Australian soldiers from Crete; the story of Pastor Niemoller. There are stories out of Holland, from France, from Burma; there are stirring tales of Czech and Yugoslav guerillas as well as quiet stories of courage and sacrifice by the nameless heroes and heroines of this war. The Living Theatre has been given the place of honour on the programmes for Sunday evenings. The first presentation, entitled "Lights of Freedom" (the story of Great Britain up to the time when Churchill took the helm), will be heard from 1ZB on April 30, at 9.15 p.m, »
