If your diet is properly balanced, the following daily amounts of meat are regarded by world nutrition experts as sufficient : At year _ ounce: At M years T 2} ounces: At 7 years _ 1} ounces: At 12 years (and over) 5e 3 ounces: At 9 years S 2 ounces: Our ration provides for about 6 ounces daily: It allows for bone, gristle and fat and still leaves Plenty for health: Meat is a main source of PROTEIN, which makes children grow, and repairs and renews the body: In New Zealand too large a proportion of our protein has come from meat. We were among the largest meat- eaters in the world: Some of our Protein should come from MILK 5 2 glasses daily for adults, 3-4 for children, skim milk for cooking: CHEESE AND EGGS When available 8 these are good sources: PEAS; BEANS, LENTILS, PEANUTS are satisfactory sources: Whole cereals, Potatoes and green, leafy vegetables also supply a little protein: And remember, these other protein foods have qualities not found in meat. Use them in your meals.
