THE CHURCHES SPEAK OUT
" Moral Laxity In Auckland
* Talks and discussions by churchmen on topics of wide interest occupy a prominent piace in radio programmes just now. On this page are details of a series from Auckland dealing with moral problems in that city; and on the next page a series from 4YA by British church ed, beginning on March 19. Another "BBC series begins from 2YA on the same date. *
EEPLY concerned over the serious moral deterioration that is prevalent in the city, the Auckland Inter-church Council on Public Affairs is speaking its mind, over stations 1YA and 1ZB, during the present month on this whole question of moral laxity. The broadcasts are taking place once a week from each station: on Tuesdays at 7.30 p.m. from 1YA, and on Sundays at 9.15 p.m. from 1ZB. The theme of the series over 1YA is "Facing the Facts." The Rev. James L. Gray, of Somervell Presbyterian Church, has opened up this series with a talk, being followed on Tuesday, March 14, by a conversational session led by the Rev. G. I. Laurenson, General Superintendent of the Methodist Home and
Maori Missions. Accompanying him are two parents seeking advice on a very real problem they are facing. Two young women will take charge of the third session and discuss together the theme, "Youth Looks Forward-The Life I Want." The closing session from 1YA will be in the hands of Father A. E. Bennett, who will speak on "Whither New Zealand?" The broadcasts from 1ZB will be in the nature of dramatic presentations of
the theme "In This Town To-night: A Spotlight on Life.’ The subjects being dealt with on the consecutive Sunday evenings are as follows: "This Is My Own Life, I Can Do What I Like with Ie"; "The Clash of Generations"; "The Man on Leave’; and "We're Getting Married." The plays are being produced by representatives of the various churches and are an attempt to face the problems in our community in a realistic manner.
