OW is the pre-Election Season, With Politics All round, and Politicians at The usual Tricks, : Factions and Cranks and all the Rest At once supplying A Spectacle that No one could Call edifying; But looking on that murky Scene, No matter Where, It is our sinful Selves to see Reflected There: Oh, we are Labour, National, And Mr. Lee, The People’s Movement — yes, and "Real Democracy"! We are the Left, the Right and All Their odd Attendants, And we are all that curious Swarm Of Independents! aa chastening to Self-conceit x Is an Election, That Few of us can recognise Our own Reflection; But I believe that Those who sneer At such Confusion Of Party Politics, and voice Their Disillusion, Should call to Mind before they throw Some reokless Brick That it’s the Image of Themselves "That makes them sick; That Parties, black as they appear, And Those who lead ’em, Are Creatures of that Pit from which We dig our Freedom. — a
