(b) Explain briefly (not more than three lines) the circumstances and importance of the following:-The Great Trek, 1836; The Durham Report; The return of Sir George Grey to New Zealand, 1861; The Alabama arbitration; The American Lease-Lend Act. [SECTION B. (Answer one question in this Section.) ] 3. Explain the importance in British politics of one of the following:-The Reform Bill, 1832; Lord Shaftesbury; Keir Hardie; Lloyd George. 4. Explain the importance of the Education Act of 1870. [SECTION C, (Answer one question in this Section. )] 5. What is meant by Responsible government? EITHER: (a2) Trace the steps by which it was attained in New Zealand. OR: (6) Explain how the principle was applied to South Africa after the Boer War. 6. What steps have been taken towards giving India self-government? What have been the main criticisms of the constitution of 1935? 7.
