Radio For Troops In Middle East

EW ZEALAND troops in the Middle East will soon be able to listen in to Egyptian State Broadcasting programmes with a New Zealand flavour. Doug. Laurenson, a former member of 1ZB’s staff, and later attached to the NBS unit in the Middle East before he lett to work on special programmes for the forces, has written to the Controller of Commercial Broadcasting asking for copies of scripts, announcers’ continuity' and "tie-ups" of popular recordings for incorporation in programmes. ? He hopes to treat the New Zealanders to entertainment similar to what they used to hear from the ZB stations on Sundays. The Middle East Forces programme of the Egyptian State service has recently been increased from three-quarters of an hour daily to five hours daily. The Commercial Broadcasting Service will co-operate to the fullest extent.
