Renewing Faded Holland Blinds

Dear Aunt Daisy, I have some brown Holland blinds that have become a little faded. The blinds themselves are quite good. I would like to know if there is any way that I could freshen them up a bit. -W.J.D. (Waihi). We shall probably get some good suggestions from the "Daisy Chain" to help this Link; for it is difficult to buy blind material just now, and everyone will be glad to know how to give their old blinds a new lease of life. One good way is to lay the blind flat on a table, and do first one side, and then the other, with a good shoe polish. Rub it in well with a rag, and polish it with a velvet pad, both to take off any surplus, and also to make it sink thoroughly in. Another suggestion is to paint each side with a very g00d enamel of the desired shade, Rub all over the holland first with a rag ‘moistened with turps; to get it clean and free from all greasiness; then apply a thin coat of enamel, Slightly thin the enamel with its own special brand of "thinners." A good suggestion was sent in by a member of a Women’s Institute. She made new blinds of strong brown paper, machining a hem down each side, and also machining a deep hem at the bottom, for the lath of wood. The paper is folded double and nailed on to the roller; and the blind is finished off with a cord to pull it up and down. A fringe could be put as well, last of all. This was also strengthened and made really present-

able by being painted each side with. enamel as described above, Only one special enamel has» proved completely successful for these blinds, and I shall be glad to give the name on receipt of a stamped addressed envelope,
